Our Secret Santa Adventure

The holidays at Yellow Lab Creations – a season filled with cheer, a dash of eggnog, and the joy of giving. This year, Petra and I decided to sprinkle a little extra magic on our Christmas by participating in a Secret Santa exchange. When I drew a young couple renowned for their love of all things Christmas, I understood the assignment.

In the world of Secret Santa, you might expect to unwrap something quaint and quick. But at Yellow Lab Creations, where every piece is a labor of love, we took this opportunity to go above and beyond. Knowing how much the couple cherishes the holiday season, I set out to create a gift that wasn't just memorable but truly one of a kind.

Introducing the crown jewel of our Christmas project: a custom-designed ornament by Petra that truly embodies the spirit of the festive season. Far from your typical holiday adornment, this creation is a work of art, taking inspiration from the iconic snow globe shape. Crafted with a carefully selected mix of woods - the welcoming aroma of cedar, the stunning visuals of birch and maple, the deep elegance of walnut, and a dash of the unusual with sapele - this ornament stands as a symbol of holiday cheer and the exemplary craftsmanship synonymous with Yellow Lab Creations.

But what sets this ornament apart was its personal touch. Placed inside this elegant snow globe shape was a scene straight out of a Christmas tale: a fireplace adorned with stockings, each engraved with the names of family members, waiting for Santa's visit. Alongside "Christmas 2023", the family's name was etched at the globe's base, bringing the whole scene together in a celebration of family and festivity.

The ornament's finishing touches – a jute string and wooden bead – added a rustic elegance, while the custom cedar box, engraved with 1 John 4:9 and a beautiful nativity scene, provided the perfect protective embrace for our creation, echoing the warmth and meaning of the season.

When it came time to reveal our Secret Santa gift, the moment was filled with laughter, heartfelt appreciation, and the kind of joy that epitomizes the holiday spirit. It was a poignant reminder of the power of thoughtful giving and the connections we forge through these personal gestures.

And so, our Secret Santa saga comes to a close – not just as a tale of gift-giving but as a celebration of creativity, love, and the endless possibilities when you put your heart (and laser engraver) into your work.
